U.S. mobilizes B2 stealth bombers to forward positions in Guam

Amid rising tensions in the middle east and alleged nuclear testing by Iran probably causing yesterday’s earthquake, America might plan to base the bombers at Diego Garcia which is within range of Iran

American B2 stealth bombers, capable of carrying bunker busting missiles among other heavy ordinance and destroying the underground facilities of Iran’s nuclear program are moving towards Guam in the Pacific ocean based on flight tracking data. This could be indicative of US’s preparation for a strike at Iranian sites with the likely target of Fordo.

Over the last couple of weeks America has kept a stance with mixed signals towards the rising conflict in the Middle East region. President Trump however said earlier this week that he will decide over the next 2 weeks whether the United States will attack Iran or not. However Israel’s stance might not be to hold off for that long to take some action themselves.

Although there is no confirmation about anything from official sources, experts believe that there are 2 ways in which America could plan an attack on Tehran’s key sites- one would be flying from Guam, refueling mid way (out of slightly less that 8000 miles distance between Guam and let’s say Fordo) and carrying out the attack. While the second could be to base the bombers at Diego Garcia, which is within the range of the bombers (about 3500 miles) for an attack on-let’s say- fordo program centres.

Pentagon had earlier in March this year deployed 6 B2 Bombers at Guam for the campaign in Yemen. Those B2 were replaced last month with B52 Bombers, which are considered a downgrade. However there is a catch as always. If the bombers are based out of Diego Garcia, U.S. would require British permission to launch attack from the base. However the mission can be completed if the bombers were to fly out of Guam as well.

All that is left is to wait and watch what unfolds next in the Middle East.

[06/22/2025] Update: The U.S. attacked 3 Iranian nuclear sites included Frodo late last night, as confirmed by President Donald Trump who described the operation as “a spectacular military success,” asserting that the enrichment capacity at those facilities was “completely obliterated”.
